Strawberry Matcha Latte Recipe

Inspired by one of the most popular matcha drinks we serve in our cafés, this Strawberry Matcha Latte recipe gives our ceremonial-grade matcha a fruity sweet kick.

Whether you're a seasoned matcha drinker or a matcha beginner looking to sweeten up the tea that everyone is going wild for, you're going to love this Strawberry Matcha Latte recipe. It's quick, it's easy, and it's a healthy sweet treat that's full of antioxidants and some naturally-occurring caffeine that gives you a sustained boost of energy.

Matcha on its own can taste a bit earthy and bitter—it is just powdered green tea leaves, so this isn’t completely surprising. Although high-quality matcha will have some sweeter, nuttier notes in there too, it can still benefit from a little sweetening every now and then.

So that's where strawberries come in: their fruity sweetness perfectly balances the grassy, earthy flavours of matcha, creating a drunk that's naturally sweet and fresh. Plus, it takes less than 10 minutes to make, which is always a bonus.

Strawberry Matcha Latte Ingredients

Makes 1 serving:

1g Grind matcha powder

50ml hot water

150ml milk (or plant-based alternative like oat milk)

2-3 fresh strawberries, chopped and smashed

1 tsp honey, maple syrup, sugar, or alternative sweetener of choice

How to Make a Strawberry Matcha Latte

A step-by-step guide.

  1. Prepare your matcha by whisking 1g matcha powder with around 50ml filtered hot water (not boiling water, which will burn the matcha). The mixture should be smooth and consistent, without any lumps.
  2. Combine your mashed strawberries with your chosen sweetener and gently heat until it forms a syrupy consistency. If you want a smoother drink, use a small strainer to strain the syrup.
  3. Heat your milk using a milk frother or a pan over medium heat.
  4. Add the steamed milk to the cup with the matcha and stir in the strawberry syrup. Mix well and enjoy.

What Does Strawberry Matcha Taste Like?

Strawberry matcha combines the earthy, grassy flavours of matcha with the sweet, fruity flavour of strawberries. The natural bitterness of matcha is softened by the bright sweetness of strawberries, creating a balanced drink that's full of fresh flavour. This recipe makes a strawberry matcha latte that's sweet, creamy, and smooth.
